Hourly encrypted database backups

Use case

The CRM, the knowledge base, and the social snapshots all live on one machine. Once an hour, OpenClaw finds every SQLite file, packs them into an encrypted archive, and puts the archive on Google Drive. You keep a week of copies, and a restore script for the day the laptop does not turn on.

What to connect

Google Drive, and a passphrase that is not stored in the repo. Telegram for failures.

Setup

  1. Create a Drive folder at [DRIVE BACKUP FOLDER] and connect Drive with access to that folder only.
  2. Set BACKUP_PASSPHRASE in the environment, not in a file you might commit.
  3. Save a restore script at [RESTORE SCRIPT PATH] that downloads a chosen archive, decrypts it, and puts the databases back.
  4. Schedule the job hourly.
  5. Run it once, confirm seven is the cap, and confirm a forced failure sends a Telegram alert.

Save this as a skill named db-backup. Run it every hour. Find every SQLite database under [PROJECT ROOT]. Do not keep a hand-written list. A new .sqlite or .db file should be included on the next run without a config change. Bundle them into one tar archive, encrypt it with [BACKUP PASSPHRASE], and upload it to [DRIVE BACKUP FOLDER]. Name the file with the UTC timestamp. Keep the last 7 archives. Delete older ones from Drive after the newest upload succeeds. The restore script at [RESTORE SCRIPT PATH] should: list the seven archives, download the one I name, decrypt it, and copy the databases back to their original paths. Do not run a restore unless I ask. If a backup fails, alert me immediately in the [CRON] Telegram topic and say which step failed. Do not stay quiet on a failure. A successful hour stays quiet.
